  236. I've got a [flaky] 520ST that I'll sell to whoever makes me a reasonable offer.
  237. Flaky means that it works intermittently; sometimes when you boot you'll get
  238. various numbers of bombs on the screen.  Not being a hardware type I don't have
  239. the time to get around to finding out what is wrong with it.  If you'd like to
  240. use it for parts, repair, or something along those lines...here are the specs:

  275. I had the same problem.   Basically, the problem was that Gemini apparently
  276. can ONLY USE PROPORTIONALLY SPACED FONTS.  I wanted to use a smaller font that
  277. would allow me to legibly use 24 lines in the Console Window that didn't
  278. extend off of the screen in medium res (wanted to use vi).  Using a font
  279. editor, it was apparent that all of the fonts I was trying to use weren't
  280. proportional.  Gemini wouldn't even recognize any font that wasn't.   I
  281. think that the docs stated that somewhere.  I seem to remember reading that
  282. afterwards.  Anyway, I finally gave up and went back to using Gulam.   Hope
  283. this is helpful.

  307. My thanks to all who suggested that FOLDRXXX.PRG was the solution to my
  308. hard drive problems, and apologies to all whom I told that I already had
  309. it installed.  I goofed, and it seems to have solved the problem.
  310.  
  311. My confusion arose because I upgraded my 1-Meg 520 to TOS 1.4 and then
  312. removed FOLDRXXX.PRG from my AUTO folder.  Then I bought a Mega-2 over
  313. the net with TOS 1.2 and moved my HD to it without remembering that I
  314. needed to reinstall FOLDRXXX.PRG.
  315.  
  316. I am however still puzzled.  I've had the Mega-2 for about 6 months with
  317. no problems, and the 40-folder problem raised its head only after I
  318. installed Flash 1.6.  Someone wrote me that he also had problems after
  319. installing Flash.  Anyone have any ideas about this?  Keep in mind that
  320. the problems I reported arose almost immediately after rebooting,
  321. whereas previously I could do all kinds of stuff without running into
  322. difficulty.  Does Flash greatly up the folder count?

  379.         1. It doesn't work from the auto folder
  380.         2. It says the rest - in German (though this is fair enough)
  381.         3. There are NO docs readable from outside an Atari system
  382.         4. It doesn't work at all (the first Landscape is set at
  383.                 impossible difficulty:  every wall kills you, there
  384.                 is a flying object that kills, the floor falls out
  385.                 from beneath your feet, and there are no exits.
  386.  
  387. Also, I think `DongleWare' is a bit beyond the realms of what I'd like to
  388. see at atari.archive.  After downloading 450K at 2400 baud I was, to be blunt,
  389. pissed off.  It may be that the levels data is corrupted and this would not
  390. be the author's fault.  In fact, as OXYD loaded up and I saw the name
  391.

  400. soon.  I was so glad to see that STrabble ran without a hitch on my friend's
  401. new TT.  The TT screen will be almost IDENTICAL to an artist's impression of
  402. a photograph of an IdentiKit make-up of a side-long glance by a blind
  403. octagenarian wearing sunglasses in the middle of the night at a board game
  404. someone once mentioned while under hypnosis recalling a Scrabble tournament

  421. I just tried to get Sozobon set up and seem to have gotten myself in
  422. a bit of a mess.

  424. First off, when I un-zoo'd Sozobon1 and Sozobon2, I kept getting prompts
  425. about what looked like duplicate makefiles, because the un-zooer asked
  426. whether to yes/no/all to the file. I assume this is yes-overwrite, no-
  427. leave, all-overwrite all the time.

  429. That was the first glitch.
  430.  
  431. Then, after getting it all un-zoo'd, I tried compiling some of the
  432. .c files, and I kept getting an error, 'couldn't find dstart.o',
  433. yet there was a dstart.o in the same directory ( I put EVERYTHING
  434. in the same directory). Do I need to make separate directories for
  435. some of these files? The manual seemed to indicate everything could
  436. be in the same directory.

  439. Let me give you some background on myself: I know nothing about setting
  440. up C compilers; I'm taking a beginning C course and just want to have
  441. something to do simple (at least right now) excercises and such. The class
  442. uses C on a Unix platform (as does my work, which is where I do my homework),
  443. so I'm hoping that the source code will work on my ST with not too much
  444. editing

  464. I have several pc-dos based graphics files with a .pic extension  on them
  465. and I can't find a viewer to see them on my ST :-(

  467. I have just grabbed the PBM+ stuff from a.a.  and that didn't appear to have
  468. anything that will do it.  I have also tried: viewgif, picswitch, deskpic2
  469. and just about every other thing that evenly remotely sounded like it would
  470. do the job!

  473. display)?

  491. Until I got my TT, I had always used UNITERM and found its implementation of
  492. KERMIT to be the best of any program I had ever used. But, since UNITERM does
  493. not take advantage of my 19" TTM195 monitor, I use STalker for telecomm. Since
  494. STalker does not include KERMIT, I use a PD desk accessory called GEM-KERMIT.
  495. While there are a few minor glitches, such as using the FINISH command, GEM-KERM
  496.

  584. I found a problem with Vault 3.0 a couple of days ago. I was backing up a
  585. partition on to a total of six floppies. I wandered off while each disk was
  586. being formatted and written to do other things. When I left it on one occasion
  587. I returned to find Vault had crashed with two bombs. It had finished writing
  588. the floppy in the drive and was waiting for me to put a new one in.
  589.  
  590. I restarted the full backup from scratch. Again I left it for about five
  591. minutes at one stage and it crashed again in the same way.
  592.  
  593. I tried again, but stayed close to the machine. This time I managed to
  594. complete the backup.
  595.  
  596. It seems it crashed if I left it waiting for a new disk for a few minutes.
  597. Has anyone else noticed this, or is something else going on here?
  598.  
  599. System details: Mega 4 ST running TOS1.4, blitter and ICD hard disk.

  619. This is the bug that we just tracked down and that Robert Fischer was
  620. referring to in his recent posting.  It is caused by an error in the
  621. bell-ringing code.  A new version that fixes this bug will be posted
  622. shortly (after some testing).  In the meantime, you can avoid the bug
  623. by shutting off the bell.  You do this by setting the bell repeat
  624. interval to 0.

  626. Sorry for the problem.  It's quite annoying to have a crash in the
  627. middle of a long backup.  I know---it's hit me a couple of times, too.
  628. Thanks to you and others for reporting the problem and giving us
  629. enough information to find the cause.
